About the Event

Host: Terry Barwin, House Genealogist, The House of Burnett

YDNA testing is a way to trace paternal ancestry from the present to the past. It can trace the paternal line back thousands of years. The Burnett YDNA Project is using this type of testing to identify the various Burnett paternal lines and trace them back to their origins and early ancestors.

Everyone has two pairs of 23 chromosomes. Only men have a Y chromosome which identifies them as male, and it is this Y chromosome that is the subject of the YDNA test.  A man’s Y chromosome is a Treasure Chest, identifying his direct paternal line – meaning the line of his father, his paternal grandfather, his paternal great-grandfather, etc, and contains no information about any of his maternal lines. Because the Y chromosome mutates very slowly it is very useful, not only in identifying the migration path of your direct-line paternal ancestors but it can also identify the paternal ancestor shared by two men and, within about 90 years, when that man walked the earth.

In this webinar, we will walk through how YDNA, combined with genealogical research, can break genealogical brick walls.  In addition, we will introduce a new tool being developed for the House of Burnett which can be used by HOB members to help them identify to which Burnett line they belong.

The Burnett YDNA Project has helped to identify Burnett ancestors worldwide. Are you interested in learning more about your lineage, common ancestors, or missing pieces from your family tree? Join us on May 19 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time for a Zoom meeting to learn more. The Zoom is free, but registration is required.
